Community Choice: Photojournalism
edition #3
The Story
Community Choice started out as a simple series of articles by jeriweaver where deviants could choose one deviant's gallery and pick three deviations from it to feature. In February of 2008 I, Helewidis gave a twist to that idea and asked the Senior community to choose one deviation from a gallery (back then it was for Artistic Nudes, today it is for photojournalism) and add a write-up explaining why they loved the piece so much and why we should see the it.
The project soon extend to non-seniors and took the form of Community Choice's News Articles, embraced by several Gallery Moderators (currently under other names too, but the gist is the same) and by everyone in deviantART.
The goal of this project is simple: To provide a fun and simple way of featuring good work from deviantART's galleries in a collaborative spirit between Gallery Moderators and the community! As the project has grown you can choose to take part on this with more galleries and Gallery Moderators!
The purpose is to expose deviant's artworks without putting up an entire collection in a news article. This way the artworks really get the attention they deserve! <3
In home for the project: journal-hub in resurgere you can read more about this project!
And that's why the CR (Community Relations) Team exists: to bring Unity into the Community while sharing ART! This is your chance to have Gallery Moderators support the sharing of your chosen artwork and thoughts about it.
Your Community, Your Choices!
KatiBear's choice:
I've noticed a lot of Barack deviations around deviantART, mostly of him looking powerful, or formal. But this piece just melts my heart! It shows he is human!
Tepara's choice:
Sadly, I don't understand a word he's said in the artist comment
I like this because it really makes it look like this older man is out in the middle of the sea on this errr thing... It also shows that just because you're an older person, it doesn't mean you can't do things younger people do!
rocamiadesign's choice:
"Blood, Sweat and Tears" moves me and the image haunts me throughout the day, especially since I just got the news that my son is redeploying to Iraq in a couple of months. This photograph reminds us of the human behind the uniform. I can't imagine any mother seeing this without picturing her own child in the same situation.
asher27's choice:

This one is badass. I can just feel the power of that woman... it's as if I can hear her just say 'YES!!!' or something. or perhaps... 'get me out of here!!'. Who knows!?
Wildfire198's choice:
I was taking a look at dae-mon1's gallery and found this amazing piece - it's not just the picture, it's the amazing, heartfelt description that goes with it. Sometimes we just skim over people, as if we don't have time to show an interest in them and their lives, but he took the time to talk to this guy and I thought that was pretty cool .
Silaynne's choice:
:thumb105240949:
Having been a DA member only for few time, pagomenadefterolepta has already uploaded some impressive photos. f r a g i l e is a beautiful piece of art showing the grace and concentration of a ballet dancer.
snapdragon55's choice:
:thumb103638833:
As he said in the artist's comment: what is America without its people?
Blessing the Americans by menaidewo just shows a love for our veterans and our country as a whole.
BetaAquilae's choice:
:thumb72425546:
Stage lights, ambience and semi-silhouette tell the strong and passionate story of musician life.
vhartley's choice:
I really love the part of the scene that pinkblue decided to focus on with this shot. It really creates a lovely image, and shows off the beauty and grace of the ballerina with just a small section.
Juchise's choice:
Mature Content
It's not a beautiful shot without meaning. It's shot making you thinking. Awful, gory... Look at the humans' cruelty.
as2pik's choice:
:thumb106316320:
That's a masterpiece full of sadness and emotion hidden in a deep black coat.
buffydoesbroadcast's choice:
The Streets of Cairo by nagzter transports us to another world-- another life filled with youthful excitement and unknown possibilities of whatever the night may bring.
dancingelf's choice:
:thumb108214307:
I really love the composition and contrast created by the ballerinas, how I first noticed them and then noticed the boy. And then felt as if I was the boy, the viewer that closely observes their every movement. A beautiful B&W capture!
(may she rest in peace, I got her note before she died... )
Inqy's choice:
High Gloss Polished by JadeJenkins has such a fluid composition; it captures the romantic lighting that sets Venice apart from the world.
StamatisGR's choice:
It's taken by a 17 years old girl from UK.
There are rare times that I can see the dreams of a man's soul in a picture. The photographer caught in the most beautiful way the longing of a once wannabe-sailor for the sea. This man is a builder. Still he can't be away from his great lover, the sea...
innaford's choice:
This extraordinary concert photo makes me believe that gig is something like mystical act or religious rite. And of course Kaley is great photographer with her own vision of concert shooting.
ahmedwkhan's choices:
Here Comes The Boom by manaphoto
What happened after few moments? No one knows!
I like the frame. Very nice work!
As I Lay Dying p.9 by innaford
No time to pose! Love how he is into the song! Great moment!
druideye's choice:
I was drawn to this photo when I first saw it merely on the part of it being a great portrait, but after reading the story that goes along with it, it has become more than just a photo. It really tells a great story behind the photo. I think it's exceptional photojournalism. It draws you into the scene as if you had been there on that beach with the photographer.

Edit: I needed help! LOL Nevermind, found it!
Visiting dA after a year or more is fun. I've been maintaining a convo with one of my oldest dA friends in here. We both reply very late. I think we're gonna have a record of the oldest ongoing thread between 2 people in here! xD Anyway, I can't recall the last time I logged in but it was ugly AF. Today it's my b-day (35, OMFG, time flies! I still remember being a minor on dA!) and I came back and got a really nice surprise with dA's layout coming back a bit to the old times. Not really coming back, but it's very evocative. We're getting the green back (not the same but at least it's better than those awful dark or white ones) and some of the UI even reminds me of some stuff we used to have, like sidebars and shit. And the way we can now see the deviations from ppl we follow is cool too, and remind me of back then. FINALLY, I can get a quick sense of what I like or not, again. Thank you! -Oh, but... hummm... How do I mark as seen and delete them from there? They just keep on

I'm in a very bad situation and can't donate, so all I can do is spread the word and hope someone helps Ash. :hopeful:
Do you want to get Adventure Time-ified?
This is me in Adventure Time fashion, by alexsollazzo (https://www.deviantart.com/alexsollazzo) who is taking commissions at the moment and doesn't rip your eyes out (nor your wallet).
I super recommend him. He's a great artist/colorist & cool. Go, go, go! :#1:
