Out of 71 notes I got between July 20 and September 15 (2009) with suggestions that I did not featured as a DD, only 48 of them were actually photos. Out of those 48 only some were (or where in the gallery of) Photojournalism. Out of those who were actually Photojournalism only a few were what I would consider DD material (for a long speech about that please read: about DD suggs).
There are some reasons why those mentioned few did not got a DD from me in that specific suggested deviation:
a) They had a DD within the previous 3 months (or more than 5 DDs with the last one being of the current year);
b) They already had a DD from me in another deviation ;
c) I decided to DD another photo of the same deviant;
d) I decided to wait until the deviant in question submitted something better because I believed (and still do) in them and their capabilities.
Acting this way I'd have (and I believe I DO!) the cream of the cream, the best of the best in my DDs. I acted (and still DO!) like a curator with a prestigious gallery to run for. Because... dA's Photojournalism gallery is prestigious!
We have many great quality works around here, from unknowns to famous photographers, in case you haven't noticed it yet!!!
But!!! Unlike an offline life curator, I only had the chance to feature (saving the rare exceptions here) 1 photo per day, so I had to keep raising the bar of quality up, up and away when accepting suggestions... which leaves us with a consequence that gives the reason of existence of this series of features: There are a LOT of works that have been left out from the DD page (by me), that should be recognized for their value!
