Season of Extra-CareCollaboration
Together we will raise community spirit and community will within Photojournalism. But we can only do it together, as ONE!
In my first days of Photojournalism Gallery Moderator I've been poking the Photojournalism fellas and the overall community towards what could and should happen in dA regarding Photojournalism. I've been getting to know Evan and you and it has been a fun ride!
So far Evan and I have talked about projects for 2009 and have already outlined some and started to work on it! Many great things will come your way in 2009 regarding PJ that you will want to get involved with!
Things like a contest, interviews, educative articles & more projects!
Keep tuned for more!
Photojournalism on deviantART has been defined greatly this 2008, where constant re-education of the subject matter have been constantly made to ensure the understanding of this genre be made known to the masses, i.e. you, the community.

Where we are heading for 2009:
The objective of the Photojournalism Gallery of DeviantART for 2009 will be to make this gallery similar to CNN's iReporters' portal... or even BETTER. As the time comes, we will reveal more to you!!
Now that some of our plans were revealed to you, I wanted to remember you about some projects that have been born recently. You can find them in the "Get Involved!" box. In the "Get entertainted!" one you'll find some Photojournalism-related links that can be found in dA - consider it as a special CR update treat! As for the last box, with features, intitled "Great Photojournalism", it is part of one of the projects that were born recently; I hope you enjoy it!

Before you go dwell into the above mentioned sections, I have a message for you...
What inspires me:
What inspired me to do photojournalism in the first place? I think it was only natural that I would do it one day. I have always had a familiarity with photography and in my teens I discovered the love for journalism in a summer where I had a workshop on journalism. It was very amusing and I was thrilled to write a news article and making pictures to go with it.
After that summer I began writing for the school newspaper in every edition. First with a theme, as in a chronicle, and afterwards it was freestyle, I could write on what I wanted, I just had a due date. Some years after I began to take photography more seriously, and when I entered university I had the amazing opportunities in front of me, both photographic and journalistic, having the pleasure to be the editor of a journal and photographing many events.
I confess, I have been being extremely lucky: all the things I did so far have always sort of fallen on me: invites to do this and that, from sports to theater. And then my own initiatives, like shooting events to which you dont need accreditation; but most of the times I go shoot something is because someone knows about my work and asked me if I wanted to shoot it. Almost the same thing for getting things published.
Dont ask me why, but ever since I started it I always felt compelled to do it even more. I think part of it is because Im some kind of a voyeur, and I like to keep souvenirs of what I witness, like the smile of that athlete after getting an award or the dramatic mood of an actress during a monologue; and another part is because people have always pushed me this way, ever since that workshop in my mid-teens, but more strongly after my first sports shooting in 2005.
So, when people ask me what inspires me in my art and what inspired me particularly to pursue photojournalism I usually answer with the same reply (unless Im tired of it and chose other wordings): life!
Today, after being asked by Evan to write on the subject, I wanted to add something to it, a sort of explanation on what in life inspires me!
Towards photojournalism, people in life, and people in my life have inspired me. Towards photography it was a conglomerate of many things in life, people being the first, but also my life itself, my experiences, and others peoples shared experiences, that I get to know through music, reading, cinema and fieldwork (I'm an Anthropology student). But there is more to life than just that... And because I never like to forget something I prefer to sum it up in a sentence or in a word or two, like Life and People.. or You!
Regarding dA and Photojournalism in dA, ^
estudio inspired me lots without knowing. Ever since I've read his ABCS on Photojournalism that I wanted to be more involved with this gallery: Photojournalism; a gallery to which statistically most of my works belong to (after that its Street) thus making it much more easier to me to pertain, walk around it and write about it (read: Ill always love ArtNudes, but P.J. is what I do the most).
To be the partner in crime of a gallery moderator (Evan) with whom I was already planning to collab on articles before I made this choice (oh yeah!) is the icing on the cake! To realize afterwards we think alike a lot, and that he's crazier than I thought: PRICELESS!!!

And thats the main word regarding inspiration for this move that I want to hold on:
collaboration! working together towards a common goal; do something with another person
Read: nag the hell out of Evan with a dozen projects and work with him towards out goals! <3I hope youll enjoy our doings for 2009. We are very much excited to work together in this wonderful community and are always eager to hear about you and your feedback!
So, lets hear it!
