- hey! mr tubarão! - hello hello elo, how ya doin babe? what can i do for you? *grin grin* - well, you do know i'm the gallery director of artistic nudes, right? and today is such a hot day... i wanted to go skinny dipping, but i don't know where to leave my bikini D: - why don't i hold it for ya till your done, babe? *big grin* - really? you would do that for me? you're such a sweetie! - i'll do anything for ya, babe *wink wink* - alright!! here you go... see ya in a while, and thank you! - have fun, beware of sharks! *waves*

Today is Thursday - at least for the majority, because I'm already in Friday 2am and with it comes a new journal of thematic features. This time I was aiming generally for male nudes. I tried to search with a common theme like I did for the women's journal of feats ( [link] which but is also a journal of random giving away) but it turned out to be impossible - at least with a dial-up connection, a liquids retaining in the legs and a back hurting issue attacking since Monday (geez, what don't I have?? :O_o: ).

So, this time, instead focusing on a specific theme I'll talk about male nudes in a general way. This also happens due to a lack of male nudes in dA, if we compare to the huge and overwhelming presence of female nudes - hence the title and the subtitle:

When men get nude... you better have the camera in your hands!

It is a something to rarely be seen here and I'm questioning myself why does it happen?

I first go back to the Greeks classic period and see if I can notice any trend.

I do.

Men where naked all the time, both in Art and Sports. But!, women were forbidden to gaze at them.

Sounds familiar?
That's because The Forbidden Gaze contest was inspired by that!

Still today this restriction exists, in some countries. and if it isn't the restriction, it is some sort of stigma; something to be fully studied by anthropologists (hehe! Nevermind I'm one of them, k? ^^; )...




I wandered in time to the Renaissance and I start to see more nude females, and less males...

I walk a bit more further in time and I see censorship of genitalia and breasts, but mostly genitalia, in paintings...





Women start to appear more and more, and when there isn't no censorship, there rarely are pubic hairs, especially nowadays... that's another question to go over, and it all started in ancient greece with the statues and the definition of beauty standards...





let's look at the men nowadays... in commercials, only the top part is naked, some of the times... women appear fully naked in commercials, tho...

I can see a trend here, can't you?



While women were forbid to gaze at male nudes, men started to see more and more nude women... and now rarely one sees male nudes.

Due to beauty standards we tend to deem the male nude body less aesthetic than the female one. since the ancient greeks that this was underlined, with the genital's "half-censorship" back then and the efeminization of the male body in the statues, in spite of any muscles, harmony of lines was something much required in these times...



And in ours too. It just grew! you know what I'm talking about? I'm afraid I'm not being much clear... and, unfortunately, all i'm saying here does not have any serious academic research behind it. I'm basing my opinion with books I've read at school and info I got from documentaries, but if you ask me for references I can't give you a single one.

And that's why this isn't going to the news section, but in a journal: where opinions are voiced... here, among with features:



These features will be more "pacific" - I hope!






These features are here to show you how the male body can be beautiful, how the evil penis can be art, and how a male nude doesn't necessarily means porn or greek statues...



To demonstrate how a male nude can be emotive, romantic, true!!!

Even here...women get lots of crap. But for men? At least in the past, what would be a "eh. this is a really amateurish attempt, try better" for a guy is or was "this is nothing but ugly porn, report-image moved to scraps".

Men and women are judged on completely different scales.

It's a shame there is not more quality fine art nude of the male form here. Demand and opportunities for fine art male nude imagery is disappointingly low. I try to contribute what I can when I can.
